BACH CANTATAS AND THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is perhaps the most
profound composer of music inspired by the Christian faith.
He described the ultimate goal of all music as nothing other
than the praise of God and the recreation of the soul. As
director of music for the principal churches in Leipzig, he
wrote a cantata each week relating to the Gospel of the day.
The conductor Sandy Burnett is coming on Saturday 23rd
October to talk about Bach’s cantatas and Christian faith
and to illustrate this with a workshop and rehearsal with the
West London Bach Consort. For full details, see posters at
back of Church.
